This week on Beauty Is Rising, Kelli speaks with Lindsay Leiviska.
Lindsay is a Christian wife, mom of three and an educator with a Masters degree in Teaching. She has been working with children for over 20+ years in a variety of capacities and has been homeschooling for almost 10 years.
Lindsay has served as a Large Group Communicator in Children’s Ministry for almost 15 years now and also has served in many other ministry roles leading & serving women in various groups including in MOPS Intl and Community Bible Study, Intl.
Six years ago, Lindsay and her husband adopted a newborn baby boy. The adoption of their son and his transition into their family radically changed their life. It is the painful journey of the past 6 years that has led Lindsay to start her organization, A Heart For All Students.
Lindsay is on a mission to empower the amazing children who think and process the world differently by equipping the mommas who raise them. She believes that God has created every child with gifts, passions and purpose. She longs to change the narrative of parenting & education so that these children can thrive as the people God has created them to be.
[18:11] “There was a part of me that maybe honestly, I guess I’m going to say something that, you know, a lot of people don’t talk about, but it’s so important that we do. It took me a while to fall in love with my son. It took me a while. I think part of it was just having her in my mind and having her in my heart and knowing just how much she was grieving because this was her boy.”
Lindsay recalling how past events and experiences affected her parenting.
[31:47] “I would love to say that at that moment, the scales fell from my eyes and I was completely restored physically. I no longer needed sleep to function or anything like that. But I mean, that’s just not reality. It relieved a lot of the emotional pressure and I think that was just like we were talking about, like I think it was one of the locks that was opened or one piece of the pressure that started to start releasing.”
Lindsay sharing how the moment she realized she was the best person for her child impacted her life.
[35:56] “I have to be real like life is messy. I really look at this process as that — a process. I really look at it now as just part of the sanctification process. Part of me walking with the Lord and him utilizing different situations to change me to look more like His son, though it’s just was really part of the sanctification process.”
Lindsay recalling the challenging moments at the onset of her parenting journey
[1:06:58] “It’s all based on the premise that if we do not have a relationship with our children that have the ability to truly influence in the way that we want to. So I always challenge my moms to think about their favorite teacher growing up, “who’s the teacher you remember most?” 9 times out of 10, someone adult is going to mention a teacher that loves them, that cared about them, that was invested in way beyond than just the academics.”
Lindsay on the influence behind her book, Behind the Behaviors: 4 Steps to Capture & Influence Your Child’s Heart, Beliefs & Behavior
[1:10:30] “If we try to force our children to be what the world tells them they should be. Then we might be actually causing them much more damage and might actually be impeding what God has designed and what his purpose is for their lives.”
